Trinity Youth Options
Trinity Youth Options (TYO) is sponsored by Trinity Centre Welfare and Holy Trinity Anglican Parish, Fortitude Valley, and is a non-profit operation and welcomes support, both practical and financial, so that disengaged, dissociated or marginalized youth in poverty or of few resources may have options for those things which help make for a worthwhile life.
Aims and objectives
TYO aims to enable youth in care or who are seeking to enter education at late secondary or tertiary levels and who have little or no income, live generally at poverty levels, but who have application to re-engage after dissociation from family, society or previous education to be assisted into education again or into apprenticeship or into self supporting formal employment.
Youth in the age group 14 to 22 are eligible to be assisted through Brisbane North or Moreton TAFE, assisted by the TAFE liaison officers, or through Nathanael House, Mt Gravatt and who are under guidance of the youth workers/mentors of Nathanael House. Nathanael House already provides 24 hour support and accommodation for homeless youth 14 to 17 years, and work at re-association through education and employment assistance.
In short, TYO then has the aim and objective of providing for and assisting in making for future positive options which include education opportunities, apprenticeship backing, worthwhile employment assistance, and relief from the lack or resources and poverty preventing these outcomes from ever happening.
In practice
- assistance will give students incentive to take up further education or re-engage where there has been a drop-out in previous or younger years
- is available for those up to 22 years of age in TAFE
- youth workers/mentors and TAFE liaison officers identify suitable youth wanting or being encouraged to restart education, or wanting to access tertiary and further education courses
- backing will be given to resource those going directly into employed positions (resources include regulation clothing, initial fares, identification certificates and other necessary papers, apprenticeship requirements)
- assistance granted on condition that:
- person is disadvantaged
- no other resources are available
- family is under resourced for continuing education options
- the assistance provides for worthwhile outcomes and good options for future prospects
- person is not drug dependant
- For secondary education, assistance will be made available for school fees, books, fares and school activities like excursions and other projects as agreed as meeting the aims of education opportunity and options for an enhanced future.
- For TAFE education, assistance can be made available for course fees, library fees and books, fares and practical training activities and other projects as agreed as meeting the aims of further education options for enhanced employment and self support.
